I think sound/music is a vital part of life in that it brings me into harmony with the world in a different way from visual art. I come from a musical family. My father plays the accordion,Irish traditional music. I have always improvised on the piano and took a few lessons as a child. I took up the drums when I was 12 years old,and I have acquired other instruments over the years and explore their offerings,electric guitar,bass,synthesisers,samplers all kinds of percussion instruments...and have put together a small home studio to record. Roundtrip, available through CD Baby was my first entirely solo recording made while living in the french countryside. Most other recordings prior to 2000 were LPs with groups I played with.like Bite Like a Kitty,Details at Eleven,Carbon,Raeo,Zar,Dustbreeders,State of the Union and other compilations by Elliott Sharp, New Music NY,Clocktower, Tellus and some Japanese label cassettes. CD reissues of mush of Carbon are available. I now see the inevitable computer oriented direction helpful to get some sounds out. Soundcloud, and Myspace have some sounds, and there will be a compilation from the Just listen festival released in early Dec from the Sculpture Factory in Cork where an edited piece from my performance can be heard. I do have a number of recordings in progress.My sound setup in the studio changes constantly, and for improvised gigs I like to come with a different set up but I've been working with drums, percussion, a psaltery with pickup mike run through a vortex,small electronic synth Kaossolator run through other effects, Kalimba,with pick up mic and effects, various strings,gongs,singing bowl etc and electronic pedals and bowls,sticks mallets etc. I also enjoy playing piano, and synthesisers in the studio,but rarely in public. I enjoy field recording on walks and at home in the garden with all the birds particularly. Listening is so important.
